drowned soldier

2025

Acrylic

14,8 × 10,5 cm

This piece was created as part of a school assignment on the theme of dream and reality, using Surrealism as the required style. The work explores the idea of a mermaid trapped beneath the sea, caught between fantasy and something far darker. The jellyfish, broken ruins, and red spider lily are intentionally reshaped into symbols resembling warplanes, poisonous flowers, and parachutes, forming a visual language of conflict and destruction.

Through this contrast, the piece reflects how trauma blurs the boundary between what is real and what is imagined. The viewer is left uncertain whether they are witnessing a fairytale image of a mermaid underwater or a reality shaped by the echoes of war.
